An innovative new teaching and sports building for Cranleigh Preparatory School in Surrey, working in collaboration with Design and Build Contractors Blue Forest. Situated in the midst of the open green spaces that the school is known for, the building provides a healthy natural learning environment for students, merging inside and outside spaces to improve circulation, flow and functionality across the school campus. The new building provides eight new classrooms for science, design and technology, home economics and art. The site is situated at the heart of the school, and we have taken this opportunity to improve the wider circulation and provide a new drop-off and teacher / parent meeting space. The circulation areas within the building are all covered external spaces, in line with the school’s philosophy of healthy outdoor living and minimising climate controlled corridors. The brick base of the new building provides these covered ‘cloister’ spaces, with a floating timber canopy above relating to the mature trees around the site.
