Surman Weston have won a competition for 16 micro-apartments in Hackney. The project comprises the complete reconfiguration and refurbishment of the former bedsit units, – unoccupied for 10 years – within an inner-city tower-block. The proposal combines high quality, flexible materials and simple, clever uses of space to create compact but dignified and comfortable homes. The project is part of Hackney Council's wider regeneration scheme to provide social and affordable homes throughout the borough.
