Alteration to existing property, Within a Conservation Area
The renovation project for this Maida Vale apartment (now sold via The Modern House) entailed full internal demolition and strip-out works to reconfigure the property layout and circulation, and optimise the use of space. This was also achieved through the design of bespoke, built-in furniture, including the kitchen island and concealed utility area, whose design visually regularises the awkward shape of the original room and utilises all available space to ensure the interiors remain uncluttered and functional. Solid timber floors and a carefully chosen material and colour palette contributed to the peaceful aesthetic of the flat. New, conservation-grade sash windows with fluted, double-glazed panes at the bottom allow for the interiors to achieve a peaceful, 'secluded' quality: the noise and views of the surrounding busy streets and thoroughfare are left outside the front door, while ample natural light flows in through the clear glass of the top window panes.
