This beautiful farm is situated in the picturesque Essex countryside and the owners have farmed the land for nearly 100 years. They have now decided to diversify into running weddings, and have asked Studio Wolsey to help with converting some of the old barns and agricultural buildings into a wedding venue. The current phase of the project is the barn conversion of one of the existing Dutch Barns into a bar and central facilities block. The existing barn had a great double barrel vaulted roof and a beautifully ornate steel frame. We retained both of these, while updating the cladding to make the barn warm and watertight, and installing new flooring throughout. We also added three sets of large bi-folding doors to allow guests to spill out from the bar into the courtyard during summer weddings. The client was keen to retain the agricultural feel of the barns through the steelwork and exposed brickwork internally, but we added warmth and a high quality finish through the addition of new joinery and lighting.
