The clients for this project bought the flat as a repossession in desperate need of renovation. They commissioned Studio Wolsey to carry out a full refurbishment and build a new rear extension, to create a two bedroom flat with an open plan layout. Studio Wolsey designed a rear extension, built from blue engineering bricks, to create a large open plan living room and kitchen which opens out onto the courtyard garden through large sliding doors and a glass box bay window. Features such as the brick picture wall in the living space, which connects to the garden planter in garden, are unique and provide the clients with a space to display their growing art collection. The kitchen is also bespoke, designed to act as a piece of furniture, to blend into the background and make the living space feel larger and lighter.
