New Build
Studio Weave have been appointed to design new woodland classrooms that sit separately from the main school building for Belvue School, a secondary school for boys and girls aged between 11 and 19 with moderate to severe learning difficulties and a range of other additional education needs. The brief for the classrooms is to provide two types of much-needed learning spaces for the school: a calm, informal teaching space, and a separate space for a student-run café, as well as a semi-outdoor 'messy' barn area connecting the two, which acts as a gatehouse to the woods. The design of the new building will form one part of a creative narrative we are developing about the woodlandas part of a rich learning environment, which will open up imaginative ways of engaging with this relatively new natural and magical asset at Belvue. Through various workshops, we will be involving the schoolchildren and staff as much as possible in the project, not only in the story-making but the construction process itself.
