New teaching, laboratory and lecture accommodation on existing agricultural college campus SAINSBURY BUILDING: The College wished to replace all their temporary teaching accommodation with a single Teaching Block of 1800sq.m, including Laboratory and Lecture Theatre facilities. The building includes 16 Classrooms, three Laboratories and a Lecture Theatre, arranged along a central corridor which follows the contours of this sloping site. The curved west elevation, overlooks the college pond, incorporates solar shading to limit classroom heat gain in the summer. The ‘wedge’ shaped plan is clearly expressed in the spine wall both internally and externally, with the curved and linear walls meeting to form a distinctive ‘funnel’, which provides louver's for the theatre ventilation system. ENTRANCE: Following the results of a D.D.A. Audit, Studio Four were appointed to address the shortfalls highlighted. The scheme was to provide a new reception with disabled access and prominent focal point to which the visitor will be drawn on arrival at the campus. The reception’s concentric curves house respectively: outermost – the stairs and lift, the entrance, and innermost – the curved reception desk. The ICT Centre foyer was re-arranged to include a feature stair and lift. WCs were extended and refurbished and a 3-storey lift provided to the upper floors
