New Build
Bua's design proposal for 42 homes in Upper Breiðholt, Reykjavik has been announced for planning approval following a successful meeting with the Reykjavík Environmental and Planning Council. From the 1960s to the 1980s this area (previously farmland) was intensively developed with a mix of single family houses and affordable apartment buildings. Since the end of the 1980s there has been a lack of investment in the area. Our proposal is part of an ongoing regeneration project looking at unused or underdeveloped sites throughout the city. The City of Reykjavik has organised, funded and selected the designers to deliver this ambitious project. All homes have their own front door, and the scheme champions a landscape led, low rise and high density approach. A large proportion of the site forms a new public landscape with green spaces, playgrounds and visible and integrated ‘blue-green’ infrastructure.
