Alteration to existing property, Within a Conservation Area

Practice

Studio BUA

Unit B3 , Sutherland House , Sutherland Road , LONDON , E17 6BU

Located in a private mews in the Belgravia conservation area, this house had good bones but lacked personality and had no outdoor space. Bua successfully navigated the City of Westminster’s planning process and negotiated a License for Alteration with the Grosvenor Estate, to secure permission for a large roof terrace and façade alterations. A sweeping staircase serves a new roof terrace, accessed via a large, sliding rooflight. The new terrace was a key element of our client’s brief, adding a much needed garden space. The mews façade has been redecorated and remodeled, including the removal of three sash windows and installation of French doors with cast-iron Juliet balconies. Internally the property has been fully refurbished, with a new bespoke kitchen, cocktail bar and study joinery. The ground floor dining room features wainscot paneling and is open to the top lit stair, with solid oak treads and banister.
