Studio Bark transformed a neglected Victorian home in Tunbridge Wells through a deep retrofit and low-carbon extension, creating a healthy, futureproof family home. Original features were sensitively restored alongside breathable insulation, cork, and natural materials. A striking U-Build timber extension - self-assembled by the clients - provides two new bedrooms and exemplifies circular design. High-performance upgrades including MVHR, an air source heat pump, and EV charging cut energy bills by 75%. This retrofit balances heritage and sustainability, showing how period homes can meet 21st-century standards with low embodied carbon and high comfort.
