A complete refurbishment and interior design of a duplex flat in Sloane Square that had not been touched for decades. Our client originally purchased her beautiful apartment close to Sloane Square because she loved the proportions and the light from the tall windows of the ground floor. The flat however had a layout that was at odd with her lifestyle: it had a very big kitchen - our client does not cook - and a number of guest bedrooms - she only has her father to stay. There was a small, awkward dressing “cubicle” and the bathroom had no window. We started the project re-designing the layout, then obtained the Licence of Alteration from the Welcome Trust, which is the Freeholder of the building and proceeded with designing and specifying all the fitted joinery, lighting, window dressing, flooring, finishes and fittings and incorporating the client's own art and objects on the scheme. On the upper floor, the rooms are arranged around the entrance lobby. We furnished the L-shaped sitting room with modern, classic and vintage pieces and decorated it in a soft palette of ivory. Walls were plastered in marmorino, the floor is a golden oak, basket-weave parquet finish and the windows were dressed with pale pink, wool curtains. The small kitchen received similarly glamorous treatment, with its vintage 60s light pendant, parquet flooring, plaster cornices and a lipstick-purple, glossy, cantilevered unit under the tall window. A tiny cloakroom was clad floor to ceiling in Fornasetti tiles - a favourite designer of our client - which tied in beautifully with the original pieces by Fornasetti dotted around the house. We reconfigured the lower floor, placing the new dressing room in the centre furnishing it with full height, cedar-lined wardrobes. A large niche in the wall, fitted with smoked glass doors and shelves, was perfect for displaying tidy rows of our client’s favourite shoes. The dressing room now acts as a lobby for both the master bedroom and its bathroom - which has been given a window and full length, sheer curtains.
