New Build Breeam Outstanding Research building, with Large ACDP Level 2 Biosciences Laboratories and associated Constant temperature laboratories for plants and insects, Tissue Culture Suites, Proteomic, Radioactive, Sequencing and Growth labs, Post Mortem Rooms and Autoclave Suites. There is also a Cleantech Engineering. Stride Treglown were the Technical Architects and Landscape Architects for Leadbitter, the contractor. Achieving Breeam Outstanding was a design criteria for this project, and every credit is hard won. Laboratory buildings are notoriously energy hungry, and the initial design, while addressing standard building regulatory conservation of fuel and power, did little to address the much more significant energy consumption of a laboratory building in use. We have been involved in a climate change study and re-thought the servicing criteria for the equipment and the cooling of the building which has given us the opportunity to apply for a number of valuable innovation credits targeting energy efficiency.
