Stride Treglown was invited to prepare masterplan proposals for over 1600 new homes, some offices, shops, extra care homes, energy centres and a city farm along with the refurbishment of another 1200 homes and associated streets. Our proposal centres around establishing Pendleton as a destination by improving permeability and links with the wider area of the city. The link is achieved through a Green Corridor; a ‘spine' that is attenuated by green spaces, public parks, play grounds, and other community buildings. Surrounding the Green Corridor is a series of homes, grouped into "Home zones," which are designated pedestrian-friendly areas. The new layout of the district is more legible than currently exists, making way-finding a more pleasant and secure experience. Sustainable principles are included in the redevelopment strategy: Low-carbon buildings and construction strategies will be implemented in the scheme. • Won in competition against four other consortiums • Existing housing area in need of regeneration • 1600 new homes, mix of houses and apartments • 1200 refurbished, including low and high rise • New and regenerated parks • Proposed City Farm • Refurbished sports centre • Skate park • Allotments • 'Home zone' type streets • New boulevards connecting existing community, retail and transport hubs • Code for Sustainable Homes level 4 for 1st phases, 5 and 6 for later phases • All roofs orientated for solar collection
