New Build, Within a Conservation Area

Practice

Stolon Studio Ltd

Unit A Willow House , Dragonfly Place , London , SE4 2FJ

Specialising in Sociable Architecture, Stolon Studio designed the scheme for the Royal Borough of Greenwich to provide an exemplar environment for adults with learning difficulties. Sociable Homes are arranged around a shared community garden. This is a communal space for residents of the facility to enjoy and where members of the local community can get involved and help to support residents. Along side the garden is a long veranda that provides shelter for residents and privacy buffer for residents. The site is within conservation area, in a World Heritage Buffer Zone, with adjacent listed buildings, and surrounded by overlooking properties; and it is over the top of an infilled railway cutting. It involved lengthy consultation with stakeholders including the Occupational Health Specialist, Greenwich Society, Greenwich Planning and local residents before arriving at the approved design. The building will be zero carbon, with integrated sustainable drainage. It is due to be completed in 2022.
