Listed Building - Grade II, New Build
A new house on the River Test. The house is a contemporary interpretation of a Long Barn, sitting next to the walled garden of the manorial house and the village church. It uses traditional construction methods, including a locally sourced green oak frame, local hand-made bricks and roof tiles and charred timber cladding. The house sits in the grounds of a Grade II listed Manor House and is designed in context reflecting the hierarchy of adjacent structures whilst also picking up on the local vernacular of details and materials of the hamlet at large. As it may be empty for days at a time, the house is designed to use minimal energy and resources. The project included conservation work to the River Test feeder stream that is a salmon spawning ground.
