Alteration to existing property, Within a Conservation Area
This project involved the remodelling and extension of a 1950s townhouse in Chelsea. The sober front elevation belies a succession of dramatic spaces which have been created within, and the only indication of the new basement is a discreet grille. The Living Room occupies the rear ground floor and extends sideways beneath a new structural glass roof. A strip of 'walk on' glazing below this allows daylight to flood down to the basement kitchen. An excavated rear garden and double-height 'Living Wall' helps visually connect these spaces.
