Rejuvenating St Giles’ Circus, the area around the iconic Centre Point tower, the designs will create a new world class public space for London. Unlocking the potential of existing buildings and making them work at street level, St Giles’ Circus will be a major transport interchange, meeting and information point. Clearing existing street clutter to create a strong streetscape on a raised piazza, striking crystalline sculptural forms will mark the entrances of the new Crossrail and Tottenham Court Road underground stations. Connecting people above and below ground and providing shelter, the structures will be illuminated with glowing light at night to create a dramatic and secure environment. Design guru Stephen Bayley, writing in the Observer said: “Stanton Williams specialise in no-nonsense clarity…the new plan will achieve an inspirational demonstration of urban ‘unplugging’: releasing latent potential in existing buildings.
