Edinburgh
Within a Conservation Area
Stanton Andrews was approached by this Edinburgh client to create a kitchen and family area with access to the garden for their large detached property. Careful selection of materials was imperative to the final design solution, and the choice of the right stonework, carefully detailed to match the original mid 19th Century House was part of the brief. Zinc was used for the roofing and the main rear stair window was not compromised by the extension. Detailed computer modelling was used throughout the design process to help explore options and fully understand how the house would look and feel when the work was complete. The new multi-function family room has the kitchen at its heart, with large sandstone steps leading down to a dining and seating area. Large sliding glazed doors and a wrap around window enable the family room to open directly onto the terrace and garden. Our involvement in the design was from conception to completion, and the adoption of a sympathetic but contemporary approach to the house is characteristic of Stanton Andrews' professional architectural design work.
