Homerton Baptist Church have been in the London Borough of Hackney for over 100 years but their current 1960's buidling had become unfit for purpose and didn't accomodate for the growth of the church. Spacelab's scheme creates community and church floor space over ground and lower ground floor levels with 27 flats on upper floors. A welcoming communal terrace, located on the first floor, will offer intimate space to relax and socialise in and private balconies provide additional external space for residents. The design of the scheme takes advantage of the corner site and creates a striking contemporary addition to the streetscape. The cantilevered stepped facades with inset balconies create architectural interest whilst also tapering the form in respect of adjacent buildings.
