Rosie Lee is an international, multi-disciplinary design agency who have asked us to join forces to create their new London headquarter along the über-trendy Kingsland Road in East London. They have obtained a recently completed shell which required a full fit out to accommodate their bustling and growing studio. Besides the spatial requirements there were also challenges in terms of air flow and lighting that had to be overcome as one of the floors is below ground. Needless to say, their funky approach to design also had to be reflected in the architecture. The aesthetics are based on the raw neighbourhood and the very nature of the agency: The result features mild steel, some exposed services, polished and raw concrete surfaces but also very graphic finishes such as unusual tiles, deliberately black framed acoustic glass partitions and bold vinyl graphics. However, to also underline the serious business side of the client, these materials are offset against perhaps more corporate, but warm wooden finishes and a minimally sleek overall layout.
