Yellow submarine

Project Details

£20,000 to £49,999

Practice

Sophie Nguyen Architects

16 Great Western Studios , 65 Alfred Road , London , W2 5EU

This raised ground floor flat was converted from a maze of cardboard partitions and suspended ceilings for a couple blessed with two young children and cursed by the fact that they wanted to stay in Ladbroke Grove and neither of them was a stockbroker. The flat was stripped back to create a single main space into which the Yellow Submarine was launched. This free-standing unit defines the functions of the adjacent spaces, kitchen in front, bathroom behind, complete with hatch door to keep bath time sociable. Finally two bedrooms are inserted into the adjacent space, separated by a glass partition between them in order to maximize the daylight into the children’s room.
