Snell David’s brief was to transform the internal spaces to provide new bathrooms and improved bedrooms, which had previously been dark and pokey. In addition a large kitchen / breakfast room was to be created within the lower basement. A series of options were developed, working closely with the Client to create the spaces they wanted for a London family home. The internal layouts were completely re-planned and large openings were introduced into the rear of the house to take full advantage of the Southern aspect. A double height box frame was inserted to allow the rear of the house to be fully opened up to take full advantage of the southern aspect of the garden. A dramatic 4 meter square vertical sliding sash window was installed and this was set against a double height space connecting the living spaces on ground and lower ground floors. The compact garden was landscaped to provide a sunny paved seating area with climbers planted against the feature window to develop a natural sun shade.
