Wetwood Rough responds to the surrounding pastureland. The site was originally covered by tall grass that swayed in the breeze, evoking the movement of water. The house was conceived in 2 parts to explore this notion. The main 2 storey element pushes out into the sea of grass like a boat. The 2 single-storey elements anchor the boat to its moorings to form the entrance. Floor-to-ceiling glazing offers views of the rural landscape and night’s sky. The client has said they are constantly aware or the time of day and the passing of the seasons. An outdoor terrace extends over a natural pool at the rear of the property, where the owners can bathe in southlight or descend into the cooling waters for a wild swim.
