Alteration to existing property
This beautiful old cottage in West Sussex needed renovation and both thermal and functional improvements. Client wanted to completely alter interior space as well as make a positive impact on the rear elevation that suffered from a disproportional side gable extension. The proposed rear elevation creates two double storey rear extensions wit a large floor to ceiling Crittall Patio Doors. To the left we are creating a nice large double-doors to the indoor snug area that ensure symmetry on the inside and outside. The existing internal layout does not work well for modern living. A lot of small and narrow spaces that are connected with dysfunctional corridors and passages. A new design proposes a grand double storey hallway with wardrobe and downstairs toilet. From there you are connected to the open plan kitchen-dining area which become the heart of the new home. The left side of the house comprises of the utility, living room and home office while the right side is retained as a snug and no tv zone. The first floor design was challenging due to a very steep roof. We created 4 new bedrooms with one bathroom and 2 en-suites. The corridor has access to natural daylight and a void connection to the downstairs kitchen-dining area. It ensured better interaction between the floors as well as enhanced the amount of natural light that reaches the heart of the home.
