One of sixfootstudio’s earliest projects (taken only to Tender Stage, sadly) comprising a new teaching building, associated landscaped areas and an astro-turf five-a-side football pitch were handed over to Abacus Primary School in glorious Essex sunshine in the summer of 2017 Though a relatively simple classroom wing, our key move, on a congested site, was to separate the wing from the existing school buildings, to preserve a valuable link to the school’s main playground, creating a sheltered amphitheatre and ‘calm play area’ in the process and orienting the new classrooms so they look out over the school’s playing fields.
