Brownfield site, Listed Building - Grade I, New Build, Scheduled Ancient Monument, Within a Conservation Area, Alteration to existing property
The Old Assembly Hall , 37 Constitution Street , Edinburgh , EH6 7BG , United Kingdom
A NLHF-funded Welcome Centre, connecting the Grade I listed main Cathedral building to its 1980s Chapter House; providing new learning facilities to support the varying requirements of the Cathedral congregation, education groups, visitors and staff. Set within an archaeologically-sensitive site, the building provides a new visitor entrance, retail space, exhibition areas, a relocated Vestry, and creates level access between the existing buildings. Extensive alterations to the Chapter House interiors have been undertaken to renovate the café, provide additional education spaces, modernise MEP services, and improve accessibility at all levels with the insertion of a 3-door lift and new washroom facilities.
