We were approached in 2021 to help the owners of this substantial and characterful rural home to resolve some fundamental circulation issues inside the house that have come about as a result of poorly considered extensions to the house in the latter part of the 20th century. We have completed out thorough review of the existing house and introduced a new open plan kitchen dining extension that doubles as a key circulation route for the renovated house. The scope of the project involves extensive renovation of the main house, which is locally listed, and has a future stables conversion project that will follow on from the main works. The extension to the house explores the use of stone, lime render and painted timber windows. The proposal is calm and contemporary but contextual in its use of familiar local materials.
