New Build
Sheppard Robson , 27th Floor, City Tower , Piccadilly Plaza , MANCHESTER , M1 4BT , United Kingdom
The Hadfield Wing is a bright and spacious addition to Sheffield Northern General Hospital. Architecture and interior design together have created an environment that puts patients at ease, assisting recovery. The new wing is a gateway to the site and offers visitors their first view of the hospital. Patient rooms have considerable natural daylight with views across the surrounding landscape and into planted courtyards. A glazed walkway connects the wing with the rest of the hospital campus. The interior arrangement of the building was configured to accommodate as many single occupancy rooms as possible. Light, colour and transparency permeate the building. Each floor is represented by seasonal colours and motifs, and a variety of art installations in mosaic, paint and textile complete the design. This project was included in the Department of Health publication ‘Tomorrow’s Hospitals’.
