Alteration to existing property, Within a Conservation Area
Scenario completely rethought this semi-detached house in Stoke Newington. It had a typical Victorian arrangement of smaller rooms and split floors from front to back. The brief called for connectivity between the front receptions and the lower spaces adjacent to the garden. The client also wanted to incorporate a gym and home cinema. Removal of the rear wall of the house and installation of a large skylight opened up sightlines from front to back while allowing light into the basement. This floor level was dropped, creating headroom for a gym and cinema and connection to the kitchen and dining above.
