Our client is undertaking an exercise of regeneration on this dated and mismanaged retail centre in the heart of Germany. Following continued internal renovation a greater number of tenants are now being attracted to this important shopping centre within Herne. The external facades have become tired and dated, SCd Architects have been appointed to develop a new facade strategy without materially altering the existing external fabric. We have developed a series of translucent sculptural panels that become the advertising backdrops for the anchor tenants which can be changed as the tenants change or their advertising campaign changes with the seasons. Importantly the panels become the new focus of the facade and create a dynamic and evolving facade that transforms with the use and tenants of the building without a complete elevation re-clad.
