Based in the heart of the Arlington Conservation area in the London Borough of Islington, this house re-fit is for a private client. The planners were initially reluctant to allow a non-contextual addition to the rear of the property but we were able to persuade the conservation officers that a high quality modern development would enhance rather than detract from the existing terrace. The owner, who is a research scientist for a major pharmaceutical company, had originally intended to add a small conservatory to the rear of the house. As the design developed, and with the input of the client, an additional storey was added, the extension grew in scale and ambition and the entire house was re-fitted.
