A mixed use regeneration scheme that aims to revitalise the existing Swan Centre – a District Shopping Precinct dating back to the 1960s. The new Swan Shopping Centre sits adjacent the A45 – the primary route into Birmingham from the east, and will create a new retail destination and a focal point for the people of Yardley and surrounding communities. The development will include 177,000sq.ft of new retail, anchored by a 110,000sq.ft Tesco Extra store with trading mezzanine. The retail elements are linked by a covered mall, incorporating at its heart a central covered square with cafe seating. The centre sits below the recently refurbished Bakeman House – an existing high-rise residential block, which is incorporated into the scheme at ground floor level. A 9000sq.ft commercial office building fronts the A45 to the south.
