Southwark Brick House is an award-winning contemporary three-bedroom home in Bermondsey, Southwark, created on a constrained former garage site within a conservation area. Satish Jassal Architects designed the new-build house to respond sensitively to its historic South London setting while creating a spacious, light-filled family home. The house is arranged as two brick wings with accommodation set partly below ground, reducing the building’s visual impact and protecting the outlook and amenity of neighbouring properties. The design carefully unlocks the potential of a small and difficult urban site while providing generous internal spaces and private amenity. Brickwork, pitched gables and oak-framed windows reinterpret the character and materials of the surrounding conservation area, creating a contemporary home that feels rooted in its context. Winner of a RIBA London Award 2023, Southwark Brick House demonstrates our experience as residential architects in Southwark and Bermondsey, specialising in new-build homes, constrained sites, backland and garage sites, and sensitive development within London conservation areas.
