Islington Residential Shopfront transforms a long-vacant retail unit into a new home, reactivating a declining high street frontage. The design reinterprets traditional shopfront proportions to create a façade suitable for both residential and future commercial use, ensuring long-term adaptability. Internally, the layout provides a high-quality living environment while maintaining a strong relationship with the street. The project balances immediate housing needs with future flexibility, allowing the space to revert to retail as the high street evolves. It demonstrates how redundant retail units can be sensitively repurposed to deliver homes while supporting regeneration and maintaining an active street presence.
