Haringey Brick House is a contemporary family home in Haringey, North London, built on a highly constrained former garage site just 3.6 metres wide. Satish Jassal Architects transformed the narrow urban plot into a distinctive new-build house that responds carefully to the scale and character of the surrounding Victorian street. The design reinterprets the rhythm, proportions and materials of neighbouring houses in a contemporary way. Expressive brickwork, including stretcher, stack and vertical bonding, creates texture and depth across the façades and continues into the interior, complemented by oak-framed windows and carefully detailed openings. Despite the exceptionally tight footprint, the house creates a strong architectural identity while respecting neighbouring properties and completing the street edge. The project demonstrates how small, narrow and overlooked sites can be successfully developed through thoughtful residential design and a sensitive approach to planning. Haringey Brick House has been shortlisted for the RIBA London Awards and Brick Awards, and was highly commended at the LABC Awards. It demonstrates our experience as residential architects in Haringey and North London, specialising in narrow plots, former garage sites, constrained urban sites and contemporary new-build homes.
