Haringey Brick Bungalow is a two-bedroom home on a highly constrained backland site behind a shop on Turnpike Lane, accessed via a 1m-wide passage. The design comprises two offset volumes with asymmetrical pyramid sedum roofs, improving views for neighbours and bringing light deep into the plan. A central living space connects a courtyard entrance and private garden, creating dual aspects and generous internal volumes. Carefully crafted materials, including handmade brick, oak and steel, give the home a robust character. Delivered from planning to completion, the project demonstrates how complex sites can be unlocked through design ingenuity. Winner of the RIBA London Award 2025.
