Bounds Green Corner & Roof Extension is the refurbishment and rooftop extension of a prominent 1930s Art Deco building opposite Bounds Green Underground Station in Haringey, North London. Satish Jassal Architects transformed the neglected corner building by removing poor-quality later alterations and introducing a carefully designed contemporary intervention that responds to its original Art Deco character. Bronze-coloured glazing, strong horizontal bands and tall window proportions reinterpret the building’s historic architectural language, drawing inspiration from Charles Holden’s nearby Bounds Green Underground Station. The projecting horizontal elements emphasise the curved corner geometry and culminate in a distinctive new roofline, strengthening the building’s presence within the streetscape. A new rooftop storey provides additional office and residential accommodation while remaining carefully integrated with the proportions and character of the existing building. The project demonstrates how sensitive refurbishment, rooftop extensions and contemporary design can unlock additional space while improving the appearance and performance of existing urban buildings. Bounds Green Corner & Roof Extension demonstrates our experience as architects in Haringey and North London, specialising in building refurbishments, roof extensions, mixed-use developments, Art Deco buildings and the sensitive adaptation of existing properties.
