Upperton was a dilapidated chalet bungalow situated on rising ground in a popular village in South Oxfordshire. RPA Architects obtained planning permission to implement a major refurbishment and remodelling project, creating a large four bedroomed home designed to take advantage of its stunning location and extensive views over open countryside. The challenge was to develop an economic solution which could be largely self-built. Traditional massing has been articulated by more innovative features such as 'pop-out' windows, eye-level slot windows, corner glazing, vaulted ceilings and a large glazed gable.
