In a stunning location near Portree, Skye, this holiday home was set on a steep, forested site with views across the estuary. Appointed to reimagine the design for a revised planning application, we were briefed to limit the impact of the house on the site and to bed it in to its wooded context. The solution was a house of stone and blackened timber which followed the contours of the slope and, through large expanses of glazing, maximised the connection of the house to the view. Our scope was then extended to include the interior aspects of the project, with a full detailed interior design service undertaken. We functioned as concept guardians throughout the build, weighing in on key decisions on finishes and details to deliver the end result which is very close to the original concept both inside and out.
