Wandsworth
New Build
Rolfe Judd Architecture , Old Church Court , Claylands Road , LONDON , SW8 1NZ
A former business village containing an incandescent gas mantle factory is transformed into a unique and sustainable new quarter of Wandsworth by Workspace Group and Mount Anvil. The masterplan design was led by the dual desires to create a bold, new place and to truly embed this place within its community. This was achieved through the contemporary design and by creating new pedestrian routes to bring local activity throughout the development. Following extensive consultation, a visionary masterplan was created with a truly integrated mixed-use scheme. The Light Bulb is the workspace element of the development, designed to attract a youthful and dynamic SME business community. The Filaments is high quality with affordable and private housing. When it is completed, Buckhold Road will provide 77 further residences in a 20 storey tower. Each element is designed with its own distinct identity, which is all assimilated into a unique contemporary development that makes a big impression. The Light Bulb is a dynamic and inspiring workspace forming an integral part of the overall scheme, optimised for small and medium-sized enterprises. Workspace Group is the leading provider of flexible business space for new and growing companies in London. Some 200 businesses and 600 employees occupy 10,000 square metres of high quality and highly-specified working environment, with contemporary materials and extremely efficient low-carbon energy use profile. External finned brise-soleils minimise solar gain, while simultaneously augmenting the striking design features of the development; internally an impressive atrium canopy provides uplifting views.
