New Build
Rolfe Judd Architecture , Old Church Court , Claylands Road , LONDON , SW8 1NZ
Capacity at the historic Kia Oval cricket ground is increased with a new stand of 5,295 seats which provides high quality viewing and new spaces for members and fans to improve visitor experience. The Peter May Stand is approximately one fifth of the overall capacity of the ground. New facilities include a large concourse and elevated roof garden for members or for corporate hospitality events. The existing stand was demolished and replaced with a new design cleverly inserted in its place but positioned further forward to create an additional 1,448 seats. The space below the stand is fully utilised with an expanded concourse area providing new bars, catering and toilets to improve the experience for fans and provide more covered space. A newly created roof garden terrace is an additional hospitality area, for corporate guests or club members and provides a perfect view of play on the pitch. The garden and stand are flanked by a new living wall to the outside to provide screening for local residents. The fast track demolition and building of the new stand was completed under budget and entirely in the off season from September to April. The new stand retains the name of Peter May who captained the winning England Ashes team in 1956 and was one of the greatest captains in the history of Surrey County Cricket Club.
