This house was built in 1787 and extended into the mews in 1927. In the 1980s it underwent alterations that ripped the heart out of it, changing the proportion of rooms and stripping out original mouldings. In 2005 we were asked by the new owner to help put the house back together. We created a coherent whole by reinstating the original plan form and room shapes, adapting them to suit our client's needs. New insertions used appropriate detailing and a high level of services was installed. An attic story was added for use as a studio. Many of the alterations carried out in the 80s had left the house stripped of much of its original fabric; our work involved reinstating missing elements and giving coherence to its various parts.
