Listed Building - Grade II, Alteration to existing property, New Build, Within a Conservation Area
A fabulous encounter with a grand old house beside the River Thames with Hammersmith Bridge in view, prepared as a blank canvas for a new residency. Robin Walker Architects were commissioned to undertake an exhaustive restoration of a prominent 18th Century Grade II listed property fronting the River Thames near Hammersmith Bridge. Kent House had previously been on the English Heritage register of Listed Buildings at Risk. The practice provided full architectural design services from the outset to completion and also project management services overseeing the restoration and construction procurement. We engaged leading conservation specialists and artisans to carry out the works with the assistance of the Georgian Group Society and worked closely with the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham to successfully resuscitate this heritage asset to its full glory. The principal house, previously occupied by the Hammersmith Club Society, was returned to a single residence along with extensive development to the rear of the site to include a contemporary designed swimming pool and canopy, garages and work studio accommodation, all sensitively considered in conjunction with landscaping designed to enhance the listed building setting.
