Sheffield
Within a Conservation Area, New Build
Part of a three stage project, we completed the first stage in 2013, expanding the roof level service quarters of a substantial Victorian villa to form an impressive master suite with breath-taking views of the Peak District. We took the inspiration for the second phase, a new garage, from the Victorian coach houses of properties like this in South-West Sheffield. It is designed to accommodate up to 6 large cars including 3 on car lifts if required. The last phase replaces the rundown outbuildings with a contemporary ground floor extension housing a new swimming pool. The 20m long indoor pool sits alongside the existing house, and can be opened up with folding sliding doors on the sunny days into the newly landscaped garden. The extension also provides changing/shower facilities, and a new utility room space, through which access from the house is provided. In a conservation area, the traditional exterior uses a similar stone to the house and reflects the fenestration proportions at the front of the house, whilst becoming more modern at the rear and inside. The pool was supplied by Portrait Pools, with lighting within a fabric ceiling and shimmering mosaic tiles creating some mesmerising reflections.
