Our brief was to create a striking landmark office building on a sensitive town centre site within a conservation area. To create this, we also needed to make significant enhancements to the surrounding urban realm and a plaza adjacent to the site. The offices needed to provide a range of businesses with a high-specification workspace. We designed flexible office spaces that can be used open-plan or sub-divided into cellular management offices and meeting rooms. The exterior was designed to make an architectural statement with bold forms and high-quality materials. Full height glass walls to the corners make for a particularly dominant feature and are counterbalanced by panels of natural limestone cladding on either side of the building. The finished building presents 63,043 square foot of high-specification office space and has become home to many prestigious Cheltenham businesses. The development includes various amenities for staff, such as showers, lockers, accessible toilets, and bike storage. In 2020, the building won the British Council for Offices (BCO) regional Commercial Workplace Award, with judges praising the design’s ‘quality and attention to detail’.
