Alteration to existing property
Othe client approached us to help work out what best to do with the detached house they had, which was in an L shaped plan. The main brief was they whey wanted to create some larger bedrooms and increase the size of the kitchen area. The house currently had four bedrooms two reasonable sized ones at ench end of the L shape plan and then two quite small ones, with one over the front door and the other in the rear corner. The two children were getting older and one was going to require a larger room to be able to fit into. The client also wanted to enlarge if possible the ground floor area in the rear corner which had been knocked through from a couple of samll rooms previously to a long thin room with the kitchen and breakfast area. This had a view of sorts out over the garden which the client wanted to maximize. They had thought of extending to the rear or to the side both of which had drawbacks. The side could only give a small amount of width due to position in relation to the boundary and extending to the rear would create bigger rooms but would still be narrow and long. We worked out a solution to extend to the side and rear only by around 1.5 meteres in each direction but this created a larger square space giving a fealing of much more space. The small box room to the rear then became the master bedroom with a walk in wardrobe and ensuite farther down the extended side over the existing garage. When considering the works there was also an existing single storey flat roofed extension added on some time ago which needed some repairs and so was added into the whole revised rear composition. The house from the rear then with the design we feel creates a better overall harmonious package than previoulsy.
