Alteration to existing property, Listed Building - Grade II, Within a Conservation Area
Our client purchased this Grade 2 listed derelict former Church as an extension to the Athelstan Museum in Malmesbury, to provide facilities for the local Arts scene and a climate controlled archive facility for the museum’s growing collection. The project was entirely funded through donations, and was completed to an exceptional standard. We insulated the building under the floors and in the roof, incorporated a Mechanically Vented Heat Recovery System to control the internal climate during events, overhauled the stained glass windows, incorporated secondary glazing throughout, generally bringing the building into the 21st century. The building can now accommodate live concerts, lectures, film screenings, and most importantly educational facilities for local schools and groups. The primary sponsors were Julia and Hans Rausing, and the building was officially opened by Her Royal Highness, Princess Anne in 2018.
