Alteration to existing property, Within a Conservation Area
Rider Stirland Architects, Unit 3 , Mercy Terrace , off Algernon Road , LONDON , SE13 7UX
Rear and side return extension to a semi-detached Victorian property within the Rosendale Road Conservation Area, to provide a contemporary and open-plan kitchen dining room. Our clients wanted a kitchen space with wow-factor, to enjoy hosting friends and grow into as a family. Our solution was to add a side extension to form a large kitchen and a rear extension for dining. A new WC and utility room are also added, with a leftover pocket of space making a small study. The kitchen is flooded with light from a glass roof in a single piece, and a glazed pivot door to the garden. The dining space is connected to the kitchen but has its own distinct character - intimate in the evenings with textured brick wall cladding and warm LED lights, and expansive in the daytime with slimline glazing to the other two sides making the room feel part of the garden. This glazing can be fully opened at the corner to create a free flowing space with the patio.
