Within a Conservation Area
The project is for a detached barn like dwelling with rooms in the roof in order to reduce ridge heights and of approximately 167m2 of internal floorspace. Materials and design have been carefully chosen to reflect the semi-rural nature of this edge of village location. The house is to be orientated to the south to gain sunlight into the habitable rooms and in order to take advantage of the attractive tree and hedgerow cover and to reduce any potential impact on the host dwelling. The main roof has a cat slide extension with glazing at the ground floor maintaining a contemporary feel on the southern elevation. To give the building a ‘barn’ like appearance we proposed a facing brick plinth with 225mm deep stained weatherboarding with a natural slate roof. The main openings will be trimmed with oak posts and lintels.
