Sited in SSSI area
Home for a Sculptor is a conservation-led retrofit of an historic mill house on the River Avon, transforming a flood-prone property into a resilient, low-energy family home. Original materials were carefully retained and repaired to preserve character, including restoration of the mill room with a glass floor panel revealing the river below. A failing conservatory was replaced with a contemporary weathered steel extension, featuring retractable glazing and a green roof that reconnect house, garden and river. Solar panels and an air source heat pump enhance sustainability. Richmond Bell Architects delivered the design, coordinated planning and oversaw the project on site.
